Intrigued and inspired by landscapes, and having traveled widely to photograph them, I was captivated by the images of sand dunes on Mars that appeared in various science magazines and online at the NASA Picture of the Day site.
The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Mission, 2006 – present, has produced an extravagant quantity of extremely high resolution images of the Martian landscape (80,000 and counting). Since 2017 I have reviewed and selected images from this trove, to extend my earth-bound Topographies series to include the seemingly familiar, but actually extraordinary landscapes of Mars.
